Cowley, Oxfordshire


COWLEY, a parish in the hundred of BULLINGTON, county of OXFORD, 2½ miles (S.E. by E.) from Oxford, containing 472 inhabitants. The living is a perpetual curacy, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Oxford, endowed with £600 private benefaction, and £600 royal bounty, and in the patronage of the Dean and Canons of Christ Church, Oxford. The church is dedicated to St. James. There was anciently a preceptory of the Knights Templars in this parish.
