Crowell, Oxfordshire


CROWELL, a parish in the hundred of LEWKNOR, county of OXFORD, 5 miles (E.S.E.) from Tetsworth, containing 159 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Oxford, rated in the king's books at £7. 9. 9½., and in the patronage of Miss Wykeham. The church is dedicated to St. Mary. Crowell is situated at the foot of the Chiltern hills: the Roman Iknield-street passes through the parish.
